There is a difference in trying to understand.. and basing your work on an experience you've never had.. or ever bothered to research. It just pisses me off. It almost feels like they're mocking me and my experiences. Everytime the scene is passionate.. and the victim is so weak and scared.. it makes me sick. It's not some big thrilling moment. It's one of the most empty.. almost dead moments. Another thing that makes me sick that I just learned about.. Edward Degas has a painting with a young girl sitting on a bed.. and him behind a door. It's one of those peices where you just feel like something was wrong there.. apparently there was.. and he was raping her, and decided to imortalize this power kick through his painting. Supposidly he did quite a few paintings like this, but his brother destroyed them. That is so beyond fucked up. His artwork just disgusts me now. Do you think it's wrong to judge a person's creative work based on their moral character? I have a problem with that. I've never been able to look at Diego Rivera's paintings the same way since I learned of how horrible he was to Frieda Khalo (his wife).
Same thing with Ted Hughs work.. After I found out that he destroyed a lot of Sylvia Plath (his wife's) work after she died.. just makes me sick. As a fellow writer, one should understand how important that was to her. I read to much into things I suppose. Does anyone else do this?
