Guitars
Are Cool
Well, me and the guys were hanging out in the studio, waiting for our producer
to finish writing the lyrics for our latest track, "Babies Galore," when
he mentioned to us that there would be a special guest on the track, a
very popular artist, he said. I wondered who it could be- Britney?
Whitney? Brandy? Mandy? I was bursting with excitement.
"Who is it?" I asked excitedly.
"Eric Clapton," he
said.
Of course, like anyone
who is not an immediate relative of this Clapton fellow, I asked, "Who?"
Apparently he has sold
a boatload of records, even though he's played with some real no name bands
through his career- the Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos.
He brought some sort
of instrument with him. He called it a "guitar." It kind of
looks like a large violin or a small bass with six strings. He plucked
the strings with a plectrum, or "pick," for short. It created a noise I'd
never heard before. This wasn't computer-generated. Oh, and
this guy sang while he played "Lola" or something like that. Singing
and playing an intstrument? Wow! I don't know who this guy
was, but what talent!
I thought instruments
had been dead for like a hundred years. And although the only "music"
I know about is heartless, repetitive, and more the producer's work than
that of the "artist," I think I am within my jurisdiction to say guitars
are cool.
