Man Wondering
if He's Spending Enough
NEW YORK– As he follows Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani's suggestion that New Yorkers spend their money to help the local
economy, construction worker Ted Pisciotta, 42, is wondering if he is spending
enough.
“I've been to a Broadway
show, and I even got a Yankees ticket from a scalper,” said the patriotic
Brooklyn resident. “But is it really enough? Am I doing my
part?”
Pisciotta has spent
approximately $23,000 in the last month, but still feels like he could
be doing more.
“I emptied my bank
account, and I've spent all my paychecks as soon as I get them,” he said.
“But I think there's more I can do. Maybe if I work more hours.
There's got to be a way.”
Some of Pisciotta's
purchases since mid-September are: a used ’93 Ford F-150 truck, two German
Shepherd puppies, 12 buckets of house paint, and a trampoline.
“He's really making
me proud,” said Carol Pisciotta, Ted's mother. “The way he spends
everything. If he finds some change in the couch, he'll rush out
and put some gas in the car.”
Pisciotta looks to
the New York Stock exchange, which has risen to the levels before the terrorist
attacks, as proof that he is helping the economy.
“Coca-Cola went up
over two points today,” he said, smiling. “No doubt in due part to
the six twelve-packs of Surge I bought last night.”
Still, Pisciotta's
mission to save the New York economy is not over.
“I'll be out there,
spending,” he said. “It is my duty as a New Yorker, as an American.”
