Buchanan,
Nader, Moon Child to Join Presidential Debate
After much dispute,
Green Party candidate Ralph Nader and Reform candidate Pat Buchanan will
be allowed to debate Al Gore and George W. Bush in the October 11 debate
at Wake Forest University. A fifth party candidate, Moon Child of
the Astral Rainbow Party, will also debate.
"The decision about
who would attend was basically left up to George and myself," said Gore.
"We thought it only fair that we include all the major candidates, because
we each have different views on the issues."
Nader and Buchanan
were obvious choices—they had been arguing for their inclusion for some
time, but Moon Child may come as a surprise to many people.
"Well… my advisor,
Nico Blue, told me about Ralph and Pat getting in," said Child, "And I
thought that since I’m fifth in the polls, I too should be included in
the harmonious exhange."
Child is often directly
behind Buchanan in the polls, regularly getting 0.3% of the vote.
"It is clear, looking
at the percentages Nader and Buchanan pull down in the polls, the voters
want change," said Jim Lehrer, moderator of the debate. "And Moon
Child is right there in the hunt."
"My policy is one of
compassion and love," said Child. "We all need to take care of each
other, you know? We don’t need countries and leaders and war machines.
Love is the key."
Astral Rainbow Party
vice presidential candidate Balbo Shrooms was disappointed that he was
not allowed to debate Joe Lieberman and Dick Cheney in their only debate
on October 5.
"I’m cool with it,"
said Shrooms. "In the end it will be bad karma for them. Anyway,
Moon Child gets to debate, so it all comes full circle… or something."
Child is looking forward
to the debate with caution and confidence.
"I can’t wait to debate,"
said Child. "Although I’ve never debated or interacted with suited
men before, I have practiced with my future Secretary of State, Biebo Suncloud.
I am certain I will do well. After all, I was born with the sun in
the first house."
