About Thirteen Feet
Thirteen Feet is the brainchild of Christine Hamm, who has published all over the internet and many times in print. She recently had a chapbook accepted by Pontebooks. She has a Master's in Creative Writing and loves to teach. She is the literary editor for other magazines, and finally, after being asked to head yet another literary site (which was eternally delayed by grants and narcissism) she decided to start her own. And so she sits, spinning and cackling to herself, in the dark bowels of Queens, New York.
Thirteen Feet has a particular and peculiar philosophy about art and writing. We believe people should forget about what they think poetry, fiction or art is, and how it should sound or look. Our philosophy is “make it new”. (Yes, Ezra Pound said it first.) We want original and genuine language and ideas. Don’t worry about what your mother would think or what is politically correct. Nothing is taboo. We encourage writers to write about what moves them deeply, what makes them cry and then makes them feel silly. I encourage all artists and writers to try new things and to create things that scare them. This means that you pass beyond what is sentimental and cliched and enter into your own specific experience. And... we have a bias against rhyme.
